In a remarkable showcase of local talent and excellence, 24 local brands emerged victorious at the inaugural 2024 Eswatini Consumer Choice Awards, held on September 6 at the Mavuso Trade & Exhibition Centre.
This prestigious event, established by A Peculiar People with the sole purpose of recognizing and celebrating local creativity, sustainability, and business excellence, was attended by Her Royal Highness Princess Sakhizwe and the Minister of Commerce, Industry, and Trade, Manqoba Khumalo.
Another special guest was Wilson B Nkosi, legendary radio personality from Metro FM who received an honorary award for representing Eswatini in South Africa.
Vistorious brands and products at the award ceremony were bestowed with the Symbol of Excellence Badge.
Speaking at the award ceremony, Melusi Zox Dlamini, Chairman of A Peculiar People the organization responsible for the awards, emphasized the significance of these awards, noting that they highlight the rich variety of local offerings and set the winners apart in the marketplace.
“The recognition from these awards is expected to be a key factor in guiding consumers toward the best choices available in Eswatini’s vibrant market. Over 100 products were nominated, and the nine judges were tasked with selecting the 24 winners,” he said.
The 2024 Eswatini Consumer Choice Awards not only honoured the finest local products but also provided them with a Symbol of Excellence badge for the year. This accolade signifies top quality and serves as a powerful marketing tool, enhancing consumer trust and opening new opportunities for the winning brands.
Winners Under Food and Beverages
Food: Notable winners in the food category included Black Mamba Foods, internationally acclaimed for its distinctive sauces; Emlembe Honey, known for its natural sweetness; and the novel new entry, Scoops n’ Giggles, which impressed with its creative ice cream flavors.
Non-Alcoholic Beverages: Emlembe Water and Go Raw were honored for their high quality products with natural health benefits, while the up-and-coming Nhlonipo Juice made a strong impression with its fresh, and health-conscious flavors.
Alcoholic Beverages: In the alcoholic spirits category, Imbali Gin emerged as the overall winner, as distinguished by its unique brand and profile, and Shelela Gin was recognized as a quality emerging brand in the gin market.
Apparel and Fashion
Apparel and Fashion: Baobab Batik was celebrated for its superior craftsmanship, brand story and cultural significance, leading the apparel category. Teddz Urban, a rising brand, gained recognition for its trendy designs, hinting at a bright future in the fashion industry.
Hospitality
Hospitality: MalanDeli and Silverstone Lodge were commended for their outstanding service and quality offerings, making them top destinations for both travelers and locals.
Beauty and Cosmetics
Beauty and Cosmetics: Luna Hair & Body and MyCoils were acknowledged for their innovative and effective beauty solutions, while new entrant Mongi Botanicals gained recognition as an emerging brand with its natural and eco-friendly cosmetics.
Craft and Handmade Items
Craft and Handmade Items: The Khokho Collection, Adorable Accessories, and Favourite were praised for their exquisite handmade items, reflecting the rich craft heritage of Eswatini.
Lifestyle
Lifestyle: Dala Spaces and Ezulwini Farmers Market were recognized for their unique contributions to the local lifestyle scene, with Yini Loku, a new name, also standing out for its pioneering approach to the arts scene.
Arts and Entertainment
Artists: The award for the best artist was scooped by Young Zesh, while emerging artist Emstar earned recognition for his dynamic and fresh contributions
Special Awards
Most Voted Nominee: Milo’s Ice Cream, a crowd favorite, received the highest votes, highlighting its popularity and the community’s strong support.
Chairman’s Award: The Chairman’s Award was conferred upon Explorers Smash Burgers, celebrating its outstanding culinary offerings and invention in the local food industry
