MTN Invests E950 000 towards Youth Empowerment

Today, the MTN Eswatini Foundation has recommitted to youth empowerment by supporting its partners with a sum of E950 000.

The MTN Foundation and partners gathered at the Mahlalekhukhwini House in eZulwini to reflect and recommit to the empowerment of young people particularly those who are interested in entrepreneurship initiatives.

The Foundation allocated the donation to four partner youth empowerment organizations: Junior Achievement (JA) Eswatini, Young Heroes, Small Enterprises Development Company (SEDCO), and the Youth Enterprise Revolving Fund (YERF).

JA Eswatini was allocated E200 000, YERF E200 000, Young Heroes E300 000, and SEDCO (SEDCO) E250 000 as part of the Foundation’s contribution to dealing with the challenges of youth unemployment and stimulation of economic recovery within the country.

Busisiwe Simelane, the MTN Foundation Board Chairperson explained their commitment as the Foundation in supporting youth empowerment initiatives.

She emphasized that they understand that investing in the youth will guarantee the country a bright economic future as investing in young people speeds up the country’s economic development.

“It is MTN Foundation’s responsibility to ensure that the youth get the necessary support to thrive. It is also our contribution to the country’s economic recovery process to support the development of young people and youth entrepreneurs who will contribute to the acceleration of economic activities going forward,” she said.

Speaking on behalf of the receiving partners, the SEDCO CEO, Khethiwe Mhlanga expressed her gratitude to MTN Foundation.

“What we appreciate with MTN is the fact that they have noted that we shouldn’t leave out the youth. The youth are the ones who are going to drive this country and by using the entrepreneurial aspect of it, we know that SMEs are the ones that drive the economy. They create employment. They are the ones that are going to even make Eswatini focus on local goods,” Mhlanga said.
