Meshack Kunene is the new Board Chairman of the Eswatini Development Finance Corporation (FINCORP).
The appointment was announced by the Minister of Finance, Neal Rijkenberg last week. Kunene is an engineer with vast experience and is most notably the former Managing Director of the Eswatini Electricity Company (EEC). His career at EEC spans more than forty years where he held a number of positions, which include technician, planning engineer, distribution manager, and general manager.
Furthermore, the Minister of Finance noted that Kunene is the right man for the job because of his immense experience. “As the government, we believe that the expertise, reputation, and experience that he has accumulated over the years while he was running a very large parastatal in the country with excellency, makes him the right man for this job,” he said.
Speaking on his appointment Kunene said he was happy that he will be steering an organization that is run by people who know the job. He added that he cannot wait to be part of an organization that is so important to the development and economy of the country, as the provision of meaningful access to credit, job creation, and poverty alleviation falls under FINCORP.
Moreover, Kunene noted that he will be doing a lot of homework to acquaint himself with the organization. “I know that I will be properly inducted. I will also be reading a lot of material that I will be given so that I know exactly where FINCORP is, where it wants to go, and how will it get there. One of the good things that I already know is that the corporation has a new five-year strategy in place. Mine is to make sure that the strategy is being followed. I will be asking the right questions, remain open-minded and I am willing to be agile and adaptive,” he further stated.
