Mbuso Dlamini Bounces Back as Letshego Eswatini CEO

By Ayanda Dlamini

Letshego Financial Services Eswatini has announced the appointment of Mr. Mbuso Derrick Dlamini as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective April 1, 2026.

The appointment marks a significant leadership transition for the financial services provider as it seeks to strengthen its market position and accelerate sustainable growth.

In a statement issued by the Board of Directors, the company described Dlamini as a seasoned financial services executive with more than 20 years of experience in several African markets.

He brings a proven track record in executive leadership, institutional turnaround, business transformation, and sustainable growth within regulated financial environments. Dlamini returns to Eswatini with extensive regional experience, having held senior leadership roles in Eswatini, Botswana, South Africa, Tanzania, and Rwanda.

Over the course of his career, he has developed deep expertise in financial systems, governance, and regulatory compliance, consistently delivering business growth while strengthening risk and control frameworks.

Most recently, Dlamini served as CEO of Letshego Rwanda, leading a successful business turnaround. Under his leadership, the Rwandan operation returned to sustained profitability through strategic portfolio management, digital innovation, cost optimization, and a strong customer-centric focus.

His tenure was marked by a disciplined approach to risk management and operational efficiency, positioning the business for long-term resilience. Before his time in Rwanda, Dlamini served as Chief Executive Officer of Letshego Tanzania Limited.

There, he successfully oversaw the merger and consolidation of two financial institutions, resulting in a more profitable and resilient entity. The integration improved operational efficiency and enhanced the institution’s ability to serve a broader customer base.

Dlamini also held key group executive roles at Letshego Holdings Africa Limited, including Group Head of Consumer Finance and Group Head of Strategic Projects.

In these capacities, he played an instrumental role in driving the Group’s consumer finance business, which accounted for over 95 percent of overall profitability. He also led cross-border mergers and acquisitions, strategic partnerships, and fintech collaborations, and supported the acquisition of banking and deposit-taking licenses across multiple jurisdictions.

Notably, Dlamini is no stranger to the local operation. He previously served as the CEO of Letshego Financial Services Eswatini from 2010 to 2015. During that period, he successfully relaunched operations, expanded the loan book, and delivered strong profitability within the first five years.

His return is widely viewed as both a homecoming and a strategic move to leverage his institutional knowledge and broader continental experience. Academically, Dlamini holds a Chartered Accountant qualification (CA(SA)) and is a registered member of the Eswatini Institute of Accountants (EIA).

He completed the Senior Leadership Development Programme at the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS). He also holds a Bachelor of Accounting Science Honors from the University of South Africa and a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Eswatini.

Commenting on the appointment, the Board of Directors said that developing talent through global exposure remains central to the organization’s leadership philosophy. The Board expressed confidence that Dlamini’s adaptability, insight, and strategic acumen would enable the company to deliver transformation and sustainable growth.

The Board further stated that his appointment marks an important chapter for the institution as it continues to strengthen its market position and expand inclusive financial solutions for emaSwati.

Dlamini’s leadership is expected to reinforce the company’s commitment to strong governance, customer-centric innovation, and long-term value creation for customers, partners, and stakeholders.

Letshego Financial Services Eswatini is part of the broader Letshego Group, a pan-African financial services organization focused on delivering accessible and inclusive financial solutions.
