His Majesty King Mswati III says he is encouraged by the interest taken by the private sector in partnering with the University of Eswatini (UNESWA).
The King has urged more private sector entities to also make their presence felt by partnering with UNESWA in rewarding special skills and achievements in the various fields of study.
Speaking during UNESWA’s 41st graduation ceremony at Kwaluseni this past Saturday, the King highlighted his concerns over the high rate of unemployment in the country.
He noted that through partnerships between the private sector and UNESWA, the unemployment scourge can be mitigated.
He said such partnerships between the industry and UNESWA is vital, as they equip the youth with the necessary skills for self-employment.
He expressed his excitement about the University’s partnership with the Royal Science and Technology Park (RSTP) as one of the major partners towards the university becoming a research, innovation, and technology institution. He mentioned that this is a good move for the country’s economic development.
“That is why we are happy with the partnership UNESWA has with RSTP. You should continue harnessing young talent in the agriculture, ICT, and research sectors that will lead to quality product development for local and export markets, “he said.
His Majesty further noted that giving special priority to the research and innovation areas can help the youth venture into this space with the best performance. He added that this can actually turn the youth into job creators.
“We urge the University to be a research, innovation, and technology-based institution. This will consequently contribute to more opportunities for our youth as we make them job creators, not job seekers,” he said.
