Enactus Launches Entrepreneurship Programme for Unemployed Youth in Malkerns

In a strategic effort to address youth unemployment and stimulate grassroots economic development, Enactus Eswatini, in partnership with the Malkerns Town Council, has announced a call for applications for a year-long entrepreneurship development programme targeting unemployed youth in Malkerns.

The initiative, which will run from April 2026 to March 2027, is aimed at out-of-school graduates residing within the Malkerns area. It forms part of Enactus Eswatini’s broader strategy to empower young people with practical skills, mentorship and resources to transition from unemployment into self-reliant entrepreneurship.

Participants will undergo intensive training in core entrepreneurship fundamentals, equipping them with the knowledge and tools to identify viable business opportunities, develop sustainable business models and effectively manage enterprises. The programme will also provide structured mentorship, financial guidance and ongoing support to strengthen participants’ entrepreneurial journeys.

Operating in 35 countries, Enactus is a global non-profit organisation working at the intersection of youth empowerment, entrepreneurship and sustainable development. Through its programmes, it enables young people to implement community-based projects that evolve into viable businesses and measurable socio-economic impact.

Speaking on the initiative, Enactus Eswatini Country Director Sabelo Dlamini said: “Empowering young people through entrepreneurship is critical to building resilient communities. This programme seeks to unlock the potential of youth by providing them with the necessary skills and support systems to create sustainable livelihoods.”

The programme follows the recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Enactus Eswatini and the Malkerns Town Council. Representing the Council, Acting Town Clerk Nokwanda Kgomo stated: “This Memorandum of Understanding represents a shared commitment to empowering our youth, promoting innovation, and driving sustainable community development. By combining our institutional support with the energy and creativity of young people, we are confident this partnership will unlock meaningful opportunities and deliver lasting impact for Malkerns and beyond.”

To qualify, applicants must be verified residents within the Malkerns Town Council jurisdiction and have attained a minimum of Form 5 education. The selection process places strong emphasis on clarity of vision, practicality of ideas and the ability to articulate business concepts effectively, particularly those with potential for scalability and job creation.

Shortlisted candidates will be required to present their business ideas during an interview process. Participants who successfully complete the programme will receive certification from Enactus Eswatini, enhancing their credibility and positioning them for future opportunities in enterprise development.
