Hello Inside Biz Family,
Three years ago, I sat down for a one-on-one interview with Inside Biz, where I shared a little bit about what I do and how I became a money coach. Some of you may remember me from that 2022 interview, but perhaps many of you didn’t read it and don’t know me.
So please allow me to introduce myself.
My name is Vuyo Khumalo. I am a certified money coach working at the intersection of money, human behavior, and psychology. I help people with their money.
Sometimes that help looks like understanding their emotional relationship with money.
Sometimes it’s teaching the basics: budgeting, managing debt, saving, investing, and income creation. Sometimes I’m helping them align their money with their values.
Sometimes I’m helping them make big, scary financial decisions, or navigate big transitions like retirement or leaving a job.
Sometimes I’m helping them fix a financial mess they’ve created or get out of debt.
Sometimes I’m helping them create financial boundaries.
Sometimes I’m helping them plan their lives and figure out how money fits into that.
And sometimes, I’m simply there for accountability, or as a safe space to vent.

Where have I been these past three years?
To be honest, nothing fully prepares you for the emotional and practical realities of building a business, especially in the helping profession. And even more so when you are navigating it alone.
The past three years have been a journey of learning, stretching, and at times, unravelling.
At one point in 2024, I walked away from my business entirely. I was convinced I would not return to money coaching. I was emotionally exhausted, burnt out from the weight of the work.
What I hadn’t fully anticipated when I started this journey was just how deeply emotional money is for people. There were moments where clients would reach out late at night, overwhelmed and panicking, and I found myself carrying more than I had the capacity to hold. I was holding their stress in my own body and mind. Over time, the work that once felt deeply fulfilling began to feel heavy.
What started as a short break to rest and recalibrate turned into months away. I stepped back completely, disconnecting from my platforms, my work, and for a while, from the identity I had built around it.
Looking back now, that season was necessary. It gave me the space to reflect, to take care of myself, and to redefine how I want to show up in this work.
In 2025, something unexpected happened. The work found me again.
A close friend reached out to say that someone had been trying to find me on Instagram, asking for help connecting. That one conversation led to a session. That session led to another… and slowly, I found my way back.
Since then, I have begun rebuilding more intentionally, launching an online Money School, a 12-week program focused on the foundations of personal financial management, hosting webinars, returning to corporate financial wellness work, and exploring writing as a way to share deeper reflections on money, personal growth, and self-discovery.
More importantly, I have come back to this work with a clearer understanding of the importance of boundaries and sustainability.

What is in the pipeline?
The journey continues to unfold.
The Money School will return in a more refined, accessible format, alongside the development of practical tools to help individuals better understand and transform their relationship with money.
At the same time, I am continuing to engage with organizations on financial wellness initiatives, while expanding my work in writing — creating space for more honest, thoughtful conversations about money.
And on that note, I am happy to share that I will be a regular contributor on money matters for Inside Biz, starting today.
This next phase is less about doing more, it is more about slowing down and doing the work with greater intention, depth, and impact.
I love the human behavior and psychology side of my work, it’s the part that gets me genuinely excited. I love it when my clients have insight into their behavior, and when those insights transform their perspective, so they begin to see and do things differently. I love when they grow into self-awareness and take ownership of their financial well-being, and how that spills over into other areas of their lives. I love it when a person realizes their own power and capacity for change.
And I’ve come to see that those kinds of insights and transformations don’t come from working on the technical side of money alone, they come from deeper inner work.
This is an area of my work that I haven’t shared much about before. I’ve been hesitant, unsure of how it would be received. But coming back from my hiatus, this is where I feel most drawn to focus.
Helping people see money differently.
And relate to money differently.
So you can expect more of that in my writing.
Of course, I will still explore the practical side of money and speak to topical issues, like how to navigate the economically uncertain times we are living in.
You can expect to hear from me every other Tuesday.
I look forward to engaging with you.
