The Ministry of Agriculture has officially inaugurated the Mbulungwane Veterinary Office, a cutting-edge facility valued at over E800,000, marking a significant milestone for the livestock farming community in the Shiselweni Region, set to transform veterinary services for farmers across five Tinkhundla constituencies.
Situated in Methula Inkhundla, this new office promises to significantly enhance veterinary services for farmers across five Tinkhundla constituencies: Methula, Sigwe, Ngudzeni, Sandleni, and Hosea.
Over 1,300 livestock farmers who rely on 21 dipping tanks within these constituencies will now benefit from easier access to essential veterinary services. This development marks an end to the long-distance travel previously required for such services, aligning with the government’s commitment to bringing resources closer to the people.
During the opening ceremony, the Minister of Agriculture, Mandla Tshawuka, emphasized the importance of proper livestock management and record-keeping.
“Farmers are encouraged to keep stock cards and visit this office frequently to update their stock records. As a farmer, ensure your animals, which are an asset, are registered properly in your name. This will avoid the frustration of waiting 14 days to update records before moving animals,” the Minister advised.
The establishment of the Mbulungwane Veterinary Office is a collaborative effort supported by the Microprojects Programme under the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development. This initiative aims to bolster agricultural productivity and sustainability in the region.
The new facility is expected to provide comprehensive veterinary services, including disease control, livestock vaccination, and general animal health management. By enhancing these services, the government hopes to support the livelihood of livestock farmers and contribute to the overall economic development of the Shiselweni Region.
The Minister’s message to farmers underlined the importance of responsible livestock management. He emphasized that animals are a valuable asset, and proper registration and regular health checks are crucial to maintaining their value and ensuring they contribute effectively to your household and the broader economy.
