Limkokwing University Marks Founder’s Day with Scholarships worth E2.3 Million

Limkokwing University of Creative Technology Eswatini has reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive education and youth empowerment through the launch of a E2.34 million scholarship initiative, unveiled during the university’s Founder’s Day commemoration on Friday at Sibane Sami Hotel in Ezulwini.

The event, which celebrates the life and legacy of the university’s late founder, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Paduka Dr. Lim Kok Wing, was attended by government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, academia, and student representatives. The mood was one of reflection and gratitude for a visionary whose philosophy of “creativity with compassion” continues to shape higher education across continents.

Speaking during the ceremony, Limkokwing University Eswatini Director, Tfobile Gumede, said the scholarship programme is a continuation of Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing’s mission to use education as a tool for empowerment and social transformation.

“Today, we celebrate a life that continues to ignite and inspire the imagination of many. Tan Sri believed that creativity should not only innovate but also heal. Through these scholarships, we ensure that his compassion lives on through every student who dares to dream,” Gumede said.

The E2.34 million scholarship package will directly benefit 50 students, drawn from some of Eswatini’s most vulnerable communities. Of these, 40 scholarships are dedicated to underprivileged youth from organizations such as the SOS Children’s Village, Amitofo Care Centre, and the Sidvwashini community, while 10 scholarships are reserved for Limkokwing students facing sudden hardship, just to ensure that their educational journey reaches its destination.

Gumede noted that beyond financial support, the initiative represents a commitment to ensure that every young liSwati, regardless of background or circumstance, has access to quality, transformative education that builds creativity, confidence, and capacity for leadership.

“In Eswatini, Tan Sri’s spirit of fearless creativity remains the energy that drives our students to innovate and lead. These scholarships are a tangible reflection of that legacy,” she added.

Representing the Deputy Prime Minister, Nomcebo Nhlengetfwa, applauded the university for its enduring partnership with the government and its alignment with national priorities on youth empowerment, inclusivity, and digital transformation.

“Even if I cannot hear, I should still be able to access education. Even if I am walking in a wheelchair, I should still be able to access education,” she said, underscoring the importance of accessible learning for all.

“The 50 scholarships, particularly those targeting young people with disabilities, demonstrate that Limkokwing University is walking the talk on inclusivity. This initiative aligns perfectly with the government’s drive to ensure that no young liSwati is left behind in education and skills development,” she added.

Nhlengetfwa revealed that the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office will facilitate the coordination of the scholarship beneficiaries, ensuring that deserving candidates benefit. She expressed optimism that the collaboration would continue to yield transformative results.

“As government, we remain committed to supporting institutions like Limkokwing University as they align with national goals, specifically inclusive growth, digital transformation, and youth empowerment. Together we can build a future where every young LiSwati has the opportunity to learn, to lead, and to succeed,” she said.
