The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Trade has announced that it will begin conducting routine compliance inspections across commercial premises in Eswatini as part of efforts to strengthen lawful business operations and consumer protection.
In a press release issued today, the Ministry said the inspections form part of its ongoing mandate to promote a fair, safe and compliant trading environment while ensuring businesses adhere to the country’s laws, regulations and licensing requirements.
According to the Ministry, the exercise will cover a wide range of business operations within the commercial sector and will be carried out by authorised officials. Businesses have been encouraged to cooperate fully with inspection teams and ensure that all required documentation, permits and operational standards are in order.
The Ministry further explained that the inspections are routine in nature and are not targeted at specific businesses or sectors. Instead, the initiative is aimed at strengthening compliance, protecting consumers, supporting fair competition and fostering confidence within Eswatini’s business environment.
Authorities also urged members of the public to assist by reporting suspected cases of non-compliance, illegal trading activities, counterfeit goods and unfair business practices affecting the commercial sector.
The Ministry emphasised that public cooperation remains essential in supporting government efforts to uphold standards and ensure transparency and accountability in the country’s business environment.
In addition, the Ministry called on the business community to continue working closely with government in promoting lawful and sustainable commercial practices that contribute to national economic growth and development.
The statement was issued by Minister for Commerce, Industry and Trade, Hon. Manqoba Khumalo, who reaffirmed government’s commitment to maintaining order and integrity within the country’s commercial sector.
The planned inspections come at a time when Eswatini continues to focus on improving the ease of doing business while also tightening measures against illegal trading practices and counterfeit products that negatively affect both consumers and compliant businesses.
Business operators are now expected to review their compliance status, including licensing, permits and operational procedures, ahead of the inspections.
