The Eswatini Communications Commission (ESCCOM) has announced a high-level vacancy for the position of Chief Executive Officer, inviting applications from experienced and qualified professionals to lead the country’s communications regulator into its next phase of growth and transformation.
In a public notice issued by the regulator, the Commission outlined that the successful candidate will provide strategic and professional leadership, overseeing the delivery of ESCCOM’s regulatory and developmental mandate.
The role includes supervision of key sectors such as communications, data protection, cybersecurity, and universal access, reflecting the increasing importance of digital infrastructure in Eswatini.
According to the announcement, the CEO will report directly to the ESCCOM Board and serve as the strategic head of the commission, guiding policy direction and ensuring alignment with national legislation and international best practices. Among the core responsibilities are driving long-term strategic vision, strengthening regulatory frameworks, and promoting fair competition and innovation within the communications sector.
The role also emphasizes oversight of cybersecurity initiatives and data protection regulations, areas that have become critical amid growing digital risks.
The incoming executive will additionally manage the Universal Access and Service Fund (UASF), with a focus on expanding affordable and equitable communication services to underserved and rural communities.
Beyond regulatory duties, the CEO will be expected to build strong relationships with government, industry stakeholders, consumers, and international partners. The position also calls for leadership in organizational performance, financial stewardship, and the integration of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles into ESCCOM’s operations.
Candidates must demonstrate strong competencies in strategic planning, governance, stakeholder engagement, and leadership. The minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in fields such as business administration, law, economics, ICT, or engineering, with a master’s degree considered an added advantage. Applicants are also required to have at least 12 years of professional experience, including eight years in senior executive roles, preferably within ICT, telecommunications, or regulatory environments.
The recruitment process is being managed by SNG Grant Thornton, with applications required to be submitted via email. The deadline for submissions has been set for April 27.
This leadership opportunity comes at a pivotal time as Eswatini continues to strengthen its digital economy and regulatory frameworks, positioning ESCCOM at the center of national development and technological advancement.
