EEC Invites Electrical Contractors To Register On Its Database

By Phesheya Mkhonta

Local service providers who want to be registered on the Eswatini Electricity Company’s (EEC) database as electrical contractors have until the 10th of February 2023 to submit their Expression of Interest’s (EOI).

The utility company says the main objective of this exercise, which is only open to Eswatini contractors, is to allow suitably qualified service providers (electrical contractors), an opportunity to work with EEC and also allow EEC to benefit from such a relationship.

The services provided shall be nationwide. Contractors will be categorized and further designated at particular regional workstations. Contractors currently registered with EEC will not receive automatic qualification into the database but are expected to respond to this invite and evaluated. Those that qualify at evaluation will be shortlisted and registered, with new contracts entered into with them.

Some of the works that contractors will be expected to carry out include; service installation, LV  and HV construction, transformer installation, LV and HV maintenance, and underground cabling and switchgear installation.

The EEC amongst other processes has the duty to construct electricity lines and maintain them to ensure a sustainable and reliable supply of electricity to the Kingdom of Eswatini. In its existence, the EEC is regulated by the Eswatini Energy Regulatory Authority (ESERA) and is certified for the following systems; ISO9001:2015, OHSAS18001:2007 and ISO14001:2015.

Whilst conducting the works according to line construction and maintenance standards, the contractors will also be guided on the requirements of the regulator and those of the above-mentioned systems so as ensures the organization complies at all times. Therefore, the company seeks to engage reputable and suitably qualified electrical contractors to provide the services of line construction and line maintenance.

The utility company’s bid document further states that bidders who had submitted proposals for the initial advert published in July 2022 need not re-submit them as this is a re-advertisement.

Interested contractors can download the EOI from www.sppra.co.sz and www.eec.co.sz. All other enquiries relating to this tender may be addressed to bongani.chauke@eec.co.sz.

The Closing date for this EOI is the 10 February 2023 at 11h00.
