Antidote Music, in partnership with the Eswatini National Council of Arts & Culture, as well as Antidote Culture Foundation, presents VUKUBONE Sound Lab 2023.
The VUKUBONE Sound Lab is one answer to the issues raised during the VUKUBONE Music Conference 2022 and hopes to create clear pathways to the establishment of sustainable careers in Eswatini’s creative sector.
In a press release, the Antidote Culture Foundation reveals that the VUKUBONE Sound Lab 2023 is an accelerator program aimed at improving the capacity and quality of Eswatini’s sound production sector through increasing the knowledge competencies of emerging Eswatini sound artists, in the areas of creative entrepreneurship, intellectual property rights, business, and financial management; and providing Eswatini sound artists with access to state-of-the-art sound production and recording facilities.
The program is targeted at early-stage sound artists aged between 18 – 28 years, who need a springboard to launch their careers.
“We champion the representation of women in the sound production sector and therefore would like to encourage as many women as possible to apply to this opportunity. The accelerator program will be split into two (2) cohorts with 10 participants in each cohort.”
The press release further explains “Each of the cohorts will be enrolled in a 6-week program divided into three phases: (1) Training and Masterclasses, (2) Mentorship, and (3) Project Development. The first cohort will be enrolled from July 31st – August 16th and the second cohort will be enrolled from September 11th – September 27th.”
The Antidote Culture Foundation reveals that the project is made possible by the Sound Connects Fund, an initiative by the Music in Africa Foundation (MIAF) and Goethe-Institut.
“The Sound Connects Fund is made possible with funding from the ACP-EU Culture Programme, a project implemented by the Secretariat of the Antidote Culture Foundation June 26, 2023, African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group of States and funded by the European Union (EU).”
The Fund is also co-funded by Goethe-Institut and Siemens Stiftung.
