The U.S. Embassy in Eswatini has introduced a $12,000 (E204,000) U.S. Government Exchange Programs Alumni Grant, a new initiative aimed at empowering local leaders, innovators, and young professionals.
The grant was unveiled during an official ceremony hosted at the American Corner Mbabane, marking a significant investment in national development through the country’s growing community of U.S. exchange program alumni.
Chargé d’Affaires Marc Weinstock officiated the launch, reaffirming the U.S. Mission’s commitment to supporting emerging talent and strengthening civic participation in Eswatini.
He described alumni of U.S. government-funded programs as “drivers of positive change whose leadership continues to influence communities across the country.”
“Every year, the U.S. government sends many emaSwati on exchange programs in the United States or with Americans,” Weinstock said.
“These programs vary; some focus on leadership, like the YALI Mandela Washington Fellowship or the Regional Leadership Center; others focus on priority themes such as energy, health, or safety through the International Visitors Leadership Program and Fulbright.
“For emerging entrepreneurs, there is the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs. Although these programs may be very different, alumni consistently demonstrate a shared sense of purpose, a willingness to give generously of their time and skills, and a commitment to support the next generation.”
The newly launched Alumni Grant will fund a wide range of community-building and capacity-development projects over the next 12 months.
These include initiatives to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States, youth leadership development, STEM mentorship programs for upcoming technologists, and activities celebrating major sporting events hosted in the U.S.
Projects will be implemented primarily through the network of American Corners in Mbabane, Manzini, and eventually Nhlangano once the third Corner becomes operational.
These Corners have become vital community spaces, offering technology access, educational resources, workshops, cultural programs, and platforms for collaboration. The grant is expected to further amplify their role as hubs for learning and innovation.
The Alumni Association of Eswatini, composed of returnees from prestigious U.S. government programs, will lead the implementation of these activities.

Their proven track record in community engagement, mentorship, and advocacy positions them to make a substantial impact over the coming year.
Through this support, the U.S. Mission aims to inspire a new generation of emaSwati to pursue excellence, civic responsibility, and global connections.
The U.S. Embassy emphasized that investments like this remain central to its goal of empowering youth, strengthening skills development, and nurturing long-term partnerships between the people of the United States and Eswatini.
Individuals interested in participating in upcoming American Corner programs or alumni-led initiatives are encouraged to follow the U.S. Embassy Eswatini on Facebook for updates.
