Senseless Killings Will Scare Investors Away- Business Eswatini

By Ntokozo Nkambule

The management of Business Eswatini (BE) has come out to strongly condemn the brutal killing of Human Rights Lawyer and Activist Thulani Maseko.

The business organization in a statement issued yesterday offered condolences to the family of Maseko stating that as BE and the private sector they were deeply saddened by the assassination of the prominent activist.

“As BE we would like to condemn this senseless killing in equal measure as we have condemned all the killings that have taken place in the country recently. These unrestrained acts of violence on innocent souls are frightening to the core and will surely scare away investors. Investors come to invest and create jobs in Eswatini because of the safety and security the country has enjoyed throughout history. To adulterate that would be tantamount to undermining the attractive feature that has drawn many investors into our shores.”

Furthermore, BE noted that Maseko was well-known in the business community as a humble and principled man. The organization in its statement observed that Maseko interacted freely with the private sector community because of his meek and soft demeanour.

“He was a staunch believer in settling differences through dialogue which is an approach not inconsistent with the ethos of BE. Importantly, he was an avid proponent of peace, which earned him pride in place in the private sector’s hearts.”

The Minister of Finance Neal Rikjkenberg has also come out to echo the words of BE stating that such acts undoubtedly dent the image of the country and the investment drives the country embarks on. He also expressed his condolences to the Maseko family and said he hopes the perpetrators behind this heinous crime can be found and brought to justice.
