MTN Eswatini Honours “Unique Contributors” for Outstanding Impact

MTN Eswatini has celebrated a select group of employees whose exceptional performance, innovation, and commitment have set them apart as the company’s “Unique Contributors.”

The recognition took place during a ceremony, attended by the Minister of ICT, senior MTN executives, and staff members.

The annual programme honours individuals who not only excel in their roles but also embody MTN’s core values of integrity, care, and innovation. MTN executives described the accolade as “more than just recognition, it is acknowledgement and reflection,” reserved for colleagues who consistently go above and beyond expectations.

The event was a celebration of talent, collaboration, and the values that define MTN’s organizational culture.

Employees recognized as UCs are evaluated against five key criteria: demonstrating respect and integrity, delivering work that exceeds expectations, taking initiative, protecting the dignity of others, and consistently reflecting the company’s core values.

“Today, we celebrate the stars — the unique contributors,” said Happy Mavimbela, MTN’s Head of HR. “This is not just about recognition; it is about acknowledging those colleagues who have gone beyond the expected. These individuals carry the torch of MTN because the future of the company depends on creativity, innovation, and excellence.”

MTN Fintech CEO, Sam Shongwe, praised the awardees for their contributions. “Being called a unique contributor means you are a shining star,” he said. “This recognition is based on merit, not personal preference. The work you do and the impact you create are what matter. For those who did not make it this year, let it be an encouragement to keep growing and contributing.”

MTN CEO, Wandile Mtshali, emphasized that recognition is both about output and character. “It is not only about how much work you put into your role, but also about how you relate to colleagues and stakeholders,” he said. “Your dedication to learning, your integrity, and your willingness to go above and beyond define what it means to be a unique contributor.”

Mtshali highlighted the importance of leaving a legacy of excellence. “There is no break from being excellent,” he said. “Every single day, you must get better, apply new skills, and contribute meaningfully. The recognition today is a privilege and an honor, and we hope it motivates everyone to continue striving for greatness.”

Lindelwa Dlamini, representing the cohort of awardees, expressed gratitude and humility. “Being seen, heard, and appreciated for what we uniquely offer is one of the most powerful affirmations anyone can receive,” she said. “This recognition is a celebration of the values, ideas, and efforts each of us brings to the table. It belongs to everyone who has collaborated with, inspired, and walked alongside us.”

Phumelele Magagula, a payroll officer at MTN, shared her reflections on her journey from payroll officer to Unique Contributor. “This role taught me the value of trust, consistency, and integrity,” she said. “Even behind-the-scenes work has meaningful impact. To be recognized in this way is a moment of pride and reflection.”

The Minister of ICT, Savannah Maziya, in her keynote address, praised MTN for its role in driving digital transformation, financial inclusion, and service excellence in Eswatini. She highlighted MTN’s mobile money platform as a tool for reaching underserved populations, enabling convenient access to pensions, payments, and other financial services.

“Excellence is not a moment, it is a habit,” the Minister said. “What you do today sets an example for thousands who look up to you. Going beyond the call of duty, being innovative, and serving with integrity are what create impact for your clients and the country.”

She also emphasized government collaboration with MTN in digital initiatives such as “Government in Your Hand,” aimed at making public services more accessible, efficient, and dignified for citizens. The Minister urged employees to maintain excellence, noting that service quality reflects not only on the company but also on personal character.

The Unique Contributors awards underscore MTN Eswatini’s culture of recognition, continuous development, and inclusivity. Beyond celebrating high performers, the programme motivates all employees to embrace innovation, leadership, and excellence in their daily work.

The event concluded with encouragement for awardees to continue multiplying their impact, mentoring others, and striving for personal and professional growth. As Mtshali said, “Your success contributes to MTN’s vision of connecting Eswatini to a digitally empowered future.”
