MTN Eswatini has slashed its data bundle costs by 41%.  It is important to clarify that the mobile telecommunications company has not necessarily reduced the price, but offered its customers more data for the same amount of money, which is in effect an average overall reduction of 41 percent.

This was revealed by MTN Eswatini Chief Executive Officer, Wandile Mtshali in an official launch themed Sewungenta Noma Yini With More Data, held at Mahlalekhukhwini house. Worth noting is that the reduction in data bundles applies to the freedom bundles, as well as the monthly wow bundles. For instance, under the new E2 Freedom Bundle customers will enjoy 10MB anytime data and 10MB night data, which starts from 10 pm to 5 am. Please see below the breakdown of the new prices:

  • Existing Freedom Bundles do not expire and do not have a bonus
  • New Freedom Bundles do not expire and have 100% Night Data with 3 days validity
  • Increased volume on selected monthly bundles and introduction of new bundles

Mtshali disclosed that as a company they felt they should help emaSwati by reducing the cost of data, as the cost of living has escalated to unprecedented levels. “It is no secret that data is now part of our daily lives. As MTN Eswatini we had to ask ourselves what role we are playing in ensuring that we make the lives of our customers better” he noted.

Bongani Mdluli, the Chairman of the Eswatini Consumer Association who was a panelist during the launch applauded MTN Eswatini for its decision. He echoed the CEO’s words stating that it is impossible to operate nowadays without data. He said they will continue working hand in hand with MTN Eswatini to ensure the betterment of consumers. “We believe that as the consumer association we will have a lasting relationship with MTN Eswatini, to ensure that these price reviews are not once-off” he noted.
