MTN Eswatini and Small Enterprises Development Company (SEDCO) have awarded five entrepreneurs under the Cija Ngebhizinisi programme, as part of their joint effort to empower Eswatini’s small business sector.

Now in its eighth year, this initiative continues to equip local entrepreneurs with funding, training, and mentorship, playing a vital role in strengthening Eswatini’s SME sector and boosting national development. This year, the winners—Siyabonga Dlamini, Thembi Mafu, Gugu, Lenhle Shandu, and Sikhanyiso Zwane—each received E10,000.

SEDCO CEO, Khethiwe Mhlanga, applauded the MTN Foundation, entrepreneurs, SEDCO staff, and judges for their commitment to the Cija Ngebhizinisi Business initiative.

She described the programme as a powerful eight-year journey of empowering local businesses. Mhlanga highlighted that over E250,000 in cash prizes have been awarded, with more than 140 entrepreneurs having received training and advisory services to date.

“Your stories inspire us, and there is hope and light in entrepreneurship,” she said.

Mhlanga emphasized the lasting value of business advisors, encouraging winners to stay connected with their coaches beyond the competition. She also noted the importance of accessible information, explaining that SEDCO now shares content via podcasts to reach those without radio access.

“As we partner with MTN, we know we’re contributing to Eswatini’s future,” she added, urging winners to use their prize money wisely and reinvest in their businesses.

Sibusiso Nhleko, Head of Corporate Services at MTN Eswatini, highlighted the courage it takes to start a business. He praised SEDCO’s efforts in empowering and nurturing entrepreneurs.

“Entrepreneurs are the hope architects of any country. They identify challenges and develop solutions that create opportunities, generate jobs, and ultimately contribute to the economy,” he said.

Nhleko reflected on the growth of the Cija Ngebhizinisi programme, which has evolved from humble beginnings into a robust platform for aspiring business owners. He encouraged the inclusion of equity partners, stating that collaboration can elevate businesses to new heights.

In today’s rapidly changing landscape, technology has unlocked numerous opportunities for entrepreneurs. The MTN Khanyisa App is one such innovation designed to empower business owners.
