MPCE Turns 10: MEC Mabuza Hails Eswatini’s Crucial Role in the Regional Festival

By Tlalane Dlamini

MPUMALANGA – The vibrant pulse of our neighbouring province, Mpumalanga, is set to come alive as the highly anticipated Mpumalanga Cultural Xperience (MPCE) returns for its landmark 10th-anniversary celebration. And for us here in Eswatini, this milestone holds a special significance!

The eagerly awaited event was officially launched on October 7, 2025, in Mbombela by the MEC for the Mpumalanga Department of Culture, Sport and Recreation, Leah Mabuza. But in a compelling call to regional unity, MEC Mabuza made a point of honouring the vital role our Kingdom and our Mozambican neighbours play in the festival’s success and spirit.

This regional emphasis is a powerful reminder that the MPCE is more than just a provincial event; it’s a spectacular showcase of Southern African culture, and a crucial platform that strengthens the ties between our two nations.

A Decade of ‘Sunrise to Sunset’

Operating under the theme ‘Sunrise to Sunset’, the 2025 MPCE will not only mark the triumphant closure of its first decade but also signal the dazzling dawn of a new era for the arts and creative industry across the border.

“This year’s celebration is not just another series of festivals, it is a celebration of decade-long effort, a testament to the long-term vision by the department to develop the arts and creative industry in our province,” MEC Mabuza stated, highlighting the MPCE’s phenomenal growth since its 2015 inception.

From November 27 to December 7, 2025, the eleven-day festival promises an unforgettable fusion of music, comedy, tradition, sport, and culture—a unifying platform celebrating the unique heritage of the region’s people.

Why Eswatini Should Join the Xperience

The MEC emphasised that the MPCE is a vital opportunity to showcase the province’s ability to host successful, large-scale events that directly create opportunities for artists. This isn’t just entertainment; it’s a significant economic and cultural driver, and as close neighbours, we are perfectly positioned to benefit from the rich cultural exchange.

Imagine:

• A Family Day Out: Catch the high-energy Carnival Xperience at the Promenade Centre in Mbombela.

• Music for the Soul: Relax at the Soul Session Xperience amidst the stunning scenery of the Lowveld Botanical Gardens.

• High-Octane Fun: Experience the massive 013 Summer Blaze at the Mbombela Stadium.

• Cultural Deep-Dive: Witness the Traditional Xperience at the Ndundza Somphalali Traditional Authority.

The schedule is packed with diverse events across various districts, including the Comedy Xperience in Mbombela, the Choral Xperience in Elukwatini, and the Mpumalanga Gospel Music Awards.

A Milestone Tribute

To commemorate this significant milestone, the department has produced a documentary that chronicles the MPCE’s incredible 10-year journey. The documentary, which pays tribute to everyone who contributed to the festival’s success, will premiere on the department’s YouTube channel, DCSRTV, on October 31, 2025.

The celebration extends to the airwaves, with the Music Creatives Workshop having released a new song, ‘Phuma Langa,’ already available on all major digital streaming platforms.

MEC Mabuza concluded with a warm invitation that speaks directly to us: “I call on the people of Mpumalanga, visitors from across South Africa, and international tourists to join us in celebrating this milestone year.”

As Eswatini residents, the invitation is both literal and deeply symbolic. Let’s take advantage of our proximity, embrace our shared regional culture, and head across the border to support our artists and entrepreneurs while enjoying the legendary “warmth and hospitality” that defines our corner of the continent.

Mark your calendars! The 10th anniversary of the Mpumalanga Cultural Xperience promises to be a spectacular cultural feast, and your lifestyle is waiting to be enriched.
