The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Appolo Maphalala has expressed appreciation for the quality and diversity of Eswatini Housing Board projects.
The Minister noted this last week Friday when touring EHB offices, as well as the various projects administered and constructed by the parastatal. The visit was part of the Minister’s familiarization tour of entities under his ministry, which aims to enhance his understanding of their roles, functions, achievements, and challenges, and to foster a good working relationship with them.
The EHB is a statutory body established through the National Housing Board Act No. 3, with the mandate to provide affordable housing generally in Eswatini. The EHB offers various housing products and services, such as rental units, home ownership schemes, property acquisition, construction and development, and takeover of housing schemes at the government’s instance.
The Minister and his delegation were welcomed by the EHB board chairperson, Jinoh Nkambule, and the EHB Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mduduzi Dlamini, who briefed them on the EHB’s vision, mission, values, and strategic plan.
The Minister then took a tour to see some of the EHB’s projects, namely, Institutional Housing for Fire and Emergency Services, Ghetto Flats, Old Mobeni, Low Cost Housing, Kuyehlela Flats, and Woodlands Township. The minister expressed his appreciation and admiration for the quality and diversity of the EHB’s projects, which cater to different segments of the population, from low-income earners to middle-class professionals.
In his remarks, the Minister acknowledged the EHB’s strategic plan to enable every liSwati to own a home and further encouraged the EHB to continue pursuing effective ways to fulfill its mandate. He also commended the EHB for its contribution to the socio-economic development of the country, especially in creating employment opportunities, stimulating the construction industry, and enhancing the living standards of the people.
Maphalala assured EHB of his ministry’s support and collaboration and urged the EHB to work closely with other stakeholders to address the challenges and opportunities in the housing sector.
The EHB board chairperson and the EHB chief executive officer thanked the minister and his delegation for their visit and their interest in the EHB’s work. They also expressed their gratitude for the minister’s guidance and encouragement and pledged their commitment to delivering on their mandate and meeting the expectations of the government and the public.
