Now in its seventh year, the Imbube Marathon has evolved into an international event that not only promotes fitness but also positions Eswatini as a hub for wellness tourism and corporate participation. Demand for the event continues to surge, with registration slots selling out faster than ever before.
Eswatini National Provident Fund (ENPF) CEO Futhi Tembe praised the marathon’s growth, describing it as “an athletics Bushfire” that has captured the spirit of the nation. She disclosed this earlier today during a sponsorship handover event held at the Fund’s boardroom.
Tembe expressed appreciation to long-term partners for standing by the event since its inception, noting that their contributions go beyond financial backing.
One of those long-term partners is Ubombo Sugar Limited (USL), which committed E80,000 for this year’s edition, a notable increase from its 2023 pledge of E60,000. Representing the company, Leonard Ndzimandze, the Head of Corporate Affairs, revealed that 90 employees from USL will participate in this year’s race. “Our values align with ENPF’s vision, and we are committed to supporting wellness initiatives that make an impact in communities,” he said.
SPAR Eswatini followed with a sponsorship of E50,000, while also confirming that 50 staff members will participate in the marathon. IDCE also contributed E50,000, with CEO Fairlie Mabuza emphasizing the role of fitness in improving longevity and healthy living.
Tembe said the unprecedented demand for spots in this year’s marathon demonstrates its growing brand value but also presents logistical challenges. “Once production of race materials such as bibs, medals, and T-shirts is complete, it is impossible to add more slots. We encourage runners to register as early as possible to avoid disappointment,” she noted.

She further appealed for support from other corporates to address practical needs beyond funding, such as ablution facilities, medical services, and physiotherapy stations along the route.
With thousands of local and international athletes expected, the Imbube Marathon is increasingly being viewed as more than a sporting event. It has become a platform for corporates to showcase their commitment to wellness, social inclusion, and community development while boosting employee morale through participation.
The 7th edition, set for October 18, 2025, is expected to be the biggest yet, bringing together sponsors, athletes, and communities in what has become a defining fixture on Eswatini’s wellness and business calendar.
As Tembe put it, “The Imbube Marathon is not just a race; it is a celebration of our nation’s unity, health, and spirit.”
