Eswatini Social Enterprises Penetrate Taiwanese Retail Market in Milestone Export Deal

Eswatini’s export sector has recorded a major commercial breakthrough as five leading local social enterprises successfully secured shelf space in Taiwan’s mainstream retail market. The landmark deal, facilitated through a partnership with health and wellness retailer Leezen, will see Eswatini-made products stocked across 135 stores in Taiwan.

The participating brands—Black Mamba Foods, Tintsaba, Swazi Candles, Swazi Secrets (Marula oil), and Baobab Batik—represent a new wave of purpose-driven African businesses.

This achievement is a key output of the Diplomatic Allies Prosperity Project, a joint initiative between Taiwan and Eswatini designed to deepen economic cooperation and open international markets for local businesses. According to the Eswatini Investment Promotion Authority (EIPA), bilateral exports from Eswatini to Taiwan recently approached E2 million, reflecting a growing international demand for ethically made, value-added products.

Leezen described the launch as a reflection of a “kind economy,” where business acts as a force for good by empowering rural communities, supporting employees, and protecting the environment. All five brands share a deep commitment to these values, specifically focusing on creating employment for women and championing responsible production methods.

Black Mamba Foods, which already maintains a presence in Taiwan, used this opportunity to introduce its Black Mamba Hot Honey and Strawberry Jalapeño Jam. These products combine bold African flavors with strict ethical sourcing practices.

The successful market entry was facilitated by Perfect Sourcing Trading, founded by Taiwanese entrepreneur Stephanie Lin. Having lived in Eswatini for several years, Lin worked closely with both producers and retailers to bridge cultural and commercial gaps while ensuring compliance with international product standards.

“This partnership is a significant step forward—allowing us to expand market access and connect Eswatini businesses to international retail opportunities,” Lin stated.

EIPA continues to play a central role in facilitating these commercial linkages by leveraging strategic agreements like the Economic Cooperation Agreement (ECA), which covers nearly 200 product lines.

The agency, alongside the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), has further enabled local businesses to participate in high-impact events such as the Eswatini Cultural Festival and the upcoming Designed Giftionery Taipei 2026.

This partnership demonstrates how strategic collaboration and aligned values can unlock global opportunities. As demand grows for authentic and ethical products, Eswatini is well-positioned to expand its international footprint while fostering inclusive, sustainable economic development.
