EEC Set to Expand Solar Power Access

The Eswatini Electricity Company (EEC) is taking strides to bring solar power to households and businesses nationwide.

With a strong commitment to sustainable energy solutions, the company plans to extend solar power access through innovative initiatives, such as installing solar systems for the public and registering embedded generation for businesses.

Khulile Fakudze, EEC’s Research and Development Engineer, highlighted these developments at the Earth Hour 2025 launch and symposium, noting the company’s growing role in the renewable energy sector.

Fakudze detailed EEC’s extensive work in solar energy, emphasizing the significance of ongoing efforts to ensure that Eswatini’s energy needs are met through clean and sustainable power sources.

“We are busy with the registration of embedded generation, and some of our personnel have been certified with a PV green card and accredited. That means we’ll be able to install solar as EEC,” she said

By registering their solar systems, businesses can generate their electricity, contributing to the national grid while reducing reliance on conventional power sources. This, in turn, helps to diversify the country’s energy mix, enhance energy security, and reduce carbon emissions.

Beyond residential solar installations, EEC is looking into offering consultancy services and project support for businesses looking to adopt solar solutions. Fakudze highlighted that this service includes assisting companies with the design and implementation of solar systems that meet their specific energy needs.

This consultancy service will also help businesses navigate the regulatory landscape, ensuring compliance with Eswatini’s energy policies. By offering this support, EEC aims to empower local businesses to become more energy-independent and contribute to the country’s green energy transition.
