The Eswatini Bankers Association (EBA) has donated E250 000 towards this year’s Global Money Week (GMW) campaign to promote financial literacy.
The donation was presented by EBA Chairman, Mvuselelo Fakudze, on behalf of all the banks in Eswatini during this year’s launch of the GMW at the Central Bank of Eswatini (CBE) complex in Ezulwini.
Fakudze emphasized that the donation is part of the EBA’s continued involvement in financial education for young people.
“We are happy to participate in this campaign once again, and we look forward to contributing to the financial education of the youth in Eswatini,” Fakudze said. “It is important that young people are equipped with the knowledge of how to manage their finances effectively.”
The Governor of the Central Bank of Eswatini (CBE), Dr. Phil Mnisi, expressed gratitude to the EBA for their financial support while highlighting the quality of all the participants who participated in the annual GMW school competition.
“This education is extremely important as it sets up the kingdom’s future generations, teaching them how to save and not abuse their finances. This in turn will break the cycle of poverty, giving Eswatini a brighter future,” Mnisi remarked.
The GMW is an annual event celebrated worldwide to encourage financial literacy and raise awareness among young people. Mnisi noted that this year’s campaign is especially significant as it aligns with simultaneous events in other member countries of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), reinforcing the global commitment to equipping the youth with essential financial skills.
The Governor also emphasized the importance of financial education, highlighting that GMW provides a platform for engaging the next generation on financial management, critical thinking, and emotional intelligence.
“We want to ensure that young people are prepared to make informed financial decisions and understand the importance of good money management skills. Today, I was very impressed to see primary school children speaking about opening a savings account at the bank. This is very impressive and we all hope that this continues,” he said.
The Governor also announced a variety of events scheduled for the remainder of GMW, including an Educational Fair, which will end on Thursday. The event is also an opportunity for young people to interact with financial institutions, learn about financial topics, and develop their entrepreneurial skills.

Mnisi encouraged the youth to use social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and X (formerly Twitter) to engage with financial education content and share knowledge. He also cautioned against misinformation, particularly from social influencers, urging young people to critically evaluate the information they consume online and not follow trends.
