Eswatini Set to Become Regional Oncology Hub as Oncaura Unveils Advanced Cancer Services

OncAura Wellness Centre’s leading radiologist Dr. Mbongeni Dlamini addresses media practitioners present during the tour.

The Kingdom of Eswatini is positioning itself as a regional centre for advanced cancer care following revelations made during a media tour at OncAura Wellness Centre, a state-of-the-art oncology facility now serving patients across Southern Africa.

During the tour, OncAura management and medical experts outlined the comprehensive services available, highlighting the facility’s role in reducing the need for patients to travel abroad for specialized treatment. The Centre is already attracting patients from neighbouring countries, including Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Zambia, and South Africa.

OncAura offers a wide range of oncology services, covering breast, gynaecological, prostate, head and neck, colorectal, brain, urological, and paediatric cancers. The facility provides a seamless and integrated experience for patients by bringing diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care under one roof.

Speaking during the tour, leading radiologist Dr. Mbongeni Dlamini emphasised that the centre’s approach goes beyond conventional imaging. “We don’t just provide images; we provide insights that directly guide treatment,” he stated.

Dr. Dlamini explained that every case is carefully assessed to ensure the most appropriate imaging method is used to answer specific clinical questions, allowing doctors to make more informed decisions. He further highlighted the importance of minimally invasive procedures in improving patient outcomes. “Through image-guided biopsies, we obtain tissue samples with minimal discomfort, providing definitive diagnoses without the need for invasive surgery,” he added.

A key feature of the centre is its multidisciplinary approach, where radiologists, oncologists, surgeons, and other specialists collaborate to develop personalised treatment plans. This model ensures that imaging findings are fully integrated into clinical decision-making, improving both accuracy and efficiency.

Healthcare observers note that the availability of such advanced services locally represents a major step forward for Eswatini’s healthcare system, easing the financial and emotional burden traditionally associated with seeking treatment outside the country.

Beyond clinical care, OncAura is looking to the future. The facility aims to become a regional hub for medical education, research, and innovation, with plans to establish partnerships within the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and internationally. These efforts are expected to strengthen training in key oncology fields, including radiotherapy, nuclear medicine, and oncology nursing.

In addition to its clinical excellence, Eswatini offers a calm and supportive environment for recovery. The country’s peaceful setting provides a therapeutic contrast to the high-pressure environments often found in major metropolitan hospitals.

As demand for accessible, high-quality oncology services rises, OncAura Wellness Centre is playing a central role in reshaping the region’s healthcare landscape, bringing world-class cancer treatment closer to home for patients across Southern Africa.
